Darlo put end to Gazza speculation

Darlington have put an end to speculation linking them with an audacious move for former England great, Paul Gascoigne.

The tabloid press has been linking the Quakers with a £2 Million move for Gazza, since the end of last season. Gascoigne himself has declared an interest in the move. The former Spurs, Newcastle, Lazio and Middlesbrough midfielder claimed that he had already spoken to Chairman George Reynolds about a possible move.

However, Darlington Football director Luke Raine put an end to the speculation at the current time saying: "It's absolute nonsense. Darlington are not in a position whereby we can compete with the figures being talked about.

"Gazza is a great player and of course we would be interested, but not while we're in the Third Division."

Gazza is expected to be allowed to leave Everton is the summer. It is understood his main preference would be a move to America.
