Newcastle in possible Kelly swoop

Newcastle are understood to be weighing up a bid for Leeds fullback Gary Kelly.

The Irish International has seen himself left out in the cold at Elland Road since the arrival of Danny Mills, two seasons's ago. Kelly has been restricted to limited first team appearances and is looking for a move away from Elland Road in a bid to save his Rep.Of Ireland World cup place.

Manager Mick McCarthy has told Kelly he must play in more first team action if he is to guarantee himself a place in the 22 man squad.

Kelly's exile from the Leeds side has also coincided with his loss of the right back spot for Ireland. If he wants to regain his place from Steve Finnan, then it is clear he must move.

North-East rivals Middlesbrough have also been linked with a move for Kelly, though their interest has now dropped with the rise in form of young Robbie Stockdale. Newcastle are now in the driving seat for the players signature.

At a cost of just £4 Million, Kelly would represent a bargain for the Geordies. He is a solid, reliable defender, who can get forward. Expect some activity within the early part of December.
