Lee joins Derby

Derby County have completed the signing of Newcastle’s Robert Lee, in a deal believed to be worth around £500,000.

The 36-year old veteran has been left frustrated at United, after the Tyneside club refused to offer him a new contract, even though his current deal expired in the summer.

Added to this was the rejection of a bid from West Ham for his services.

It had seemed Newcastle would only sell Lee if they found a replacement for his position in the squad. However, it now seems that the reason for the breakdown in the move involving West Ham, was the money involved.

The Hammers only offered £200,000, while the Magpies wanted £500,000, and now Derby have matched that valuation, a deal has been concluded.

Lee will make his Rams’ debut against Sunderland at the weekend.
