Sunderland boss Peter Reid was relieved to come away from the Stadium of Light with three points after the 1-0 win over Bolton last night.
Reid described the win as a “massive victory”, and called on his team to use it as a “kick start” for the rest of the season.
The Wearsiders’ have now put a little bit of daylight between themselves and relegation zone, after a solitary goal from Jason McAteer was enough to give them the three points.
Reid "Jason McAteer had chances all the way through the first half but the goal he got was a terrific one because it was a good build up before Kevin Phillips tried a shot but he played McAteer in and he stuck it way.
"I though that we had some good chances especially in the first half, but the most important this was that result and those three points and we got it.
"There is a long long way to go and we need to win as many football matches as we can and this is what we are aiming for because we have not set ourselves a target. We just need to get up that league."
Commenting on the criticism he has received of late, Reid said "There were only one or two fans having a go after the defeat against Newcastle but they were brilliant against Bolton, they were also brilliant at Tottenham.
"Although things got edgy late on in the game they got right behind the players and they were superb." He added.
