Bobby Robson blasted his side following the 3-0 hammering to Liverpool, which effectively rules out Newcastle’s chances of winning the Premiership.
Robson believed his side gave Liverpool too much respect, and were too nervous going into the game.
We were poor and I was disappointed with my side," Robson said. "I'm surprised with my team as it looked like we were overawed.
"Four or five of my players lacked belief, which amazed me because we've played really well all season, especially away from home.
"Half the team looked as nervous as kittens. I'm very disappointed but credit where credit's due, Liverpool were up for it and we were second best all night.
"We were beaten fair and square and there's nothing we can complain about."
Robson also revealed Gary Speed who was injured in the game, is extremely doubtful for the cup clash with Arsenal this weekend.
