Boro Vs Everton: Reaction

Boro boss Steve McClaren admitted he was not sure what to say to his Boro side at half time, as the Teesiders went in at the interval 3-0 up following 3 goals in seven minutes.

Noel Whelan, Szilard Nemeth and Paul Ince all-scored first-half goals as Boro booked themselves a place in the semi-finals of the F.A Cup.

McClaren said after the game: "We didn't know what to say to them. It's so unusual to be three up like that. Most of our games are tight, maybe one goal either way and we have to work hard at the break with the team.

"But not this time, Everton did well to come back at us in the second half but by then it was already over."

The Boro boss added: "The players did the half-time team talk for me. Paul Ince made it clear that only our own complacency could cause us any problems, we just had to guard against that.

"It's great to be in the semi-finals - when you get to this stage anything can happen. But we still have a lot of work to do in the league.

However, McClaren warned: We'll enjoy this result for now but we have to put it to the back of our minds soon and make sure we take the confidence from this game into our league performances.

"We must get the points we need to make sure we stay up." He added.
