West Bromwich Albion have signed Sunderland Slovakian centre-back Stanislav Varga on loan for the rest of the season. West Brom boss Gary Megson was alerted to Varga during his side’s 1-0 win over the Black Cats’ earlier this season. Despite being an ever present at the start of the season, Varga has struggled to make it in the first team of late.
Peter Reid is hoping to have injured trio Kevin Phillips, Julio Arca and Claudio Reyna all back for Saturday's home game against Southampton. All three are expected to start training again towards the end of the week.
Meanwhile Leeds United have dismissed speculation in the Sunday press that Sunderland have put in a £2 million bid for Republic of Ireland international Gary Kelly.
