Newcastle boss Bobby Robson admitted the better side won, as Newcastle crashed out of the F.A Cup on Saturday to favourites Arsenal, 3-0 at Highbury.
"It has been a sad day for us," Robson said. "Some of our fans got up at 4am this morning, I think we got up 15 minutes after kick-off. We got off to a bad start and we were never able to get back into the game.
"On the day Arsenal were far better than we were, far more intelligent, far better movement, they took their chances well, defended better than we did and we lost to the better side."
Robson however did look to the future and insisted his side still had everything to play for: "We're fourth in the league, we have got a match coming up against Everton and it is now down to me to pick the players up,"
"They are very despondent and very disappointed, they are sick about what happened because they knew the importance of today's game."
Meanwhile Kieron Dyer who lasted the entire 90 minutes was rewarded with a call up to the England squad to face Italy on Wednesday.
