Deane Foxes Switch in Doubt

Leicester City’s deal to bring Middlesbrough’s Brian Deane to Filbert Street seem to have hit a late snag, with the Midlands club blaming Boro for the stalemate in negotiations

It is understood that there are two main problems that are hampering the deal. Firstly, Deane and Boro haven’t agreed terms on the strikers contract. Deane still has a year to go, on a three-year deal, and he is rumoured to want more of a ‘pay-off’ than Boro are offering.

Secondly, Boro are reluctant to sell Deane to another Premiership club. With Leicester struggling against relegation and Boro down the wrong end of the table too, Boro don’t want to help the Foxes’ chances of survival.

At the moment the deal looks as if it could well be dead. Deane may well be happy to stay and see out his contract at the Riverside. The player isn’t getting any younger and is not prepared to lose out on the substantial contract he signed under Bryan Robson in 1998.
