Darlington boss Tommy Taylor blasted referee Paul Alcock and described him as a "drama queen" as the Quakers' were hammered 7-1 by Scunthorpe on Saturday.
Alcock sent off both Barry Conlon and Mark Ford as Darlo were reduced to nine men.
"I'll probably get into trouble for saying this, but the referee was like a drama queen out there," Taylor said.
"He wanted to send somebody off every couple of minutes. Referees don't speak to players like they used to, they either show red or yellow cards.
"I spoke to the referee at half time, and I told him that it would be a waste of time sending the team out for the second half if he was going to book or send any more players off.
"I seriously considered not sending the players on to the field for the second half, because I didn't want anybody else booked or sent off." He added.
