The Football Association has overturned the red card that skipper Alan Shearer received for allegedly elbowing Charlton's Jon Fortune on Saturday.
Referee Andy D’Urso sent Shearer off with only minutes to go, after consulting his assistant.
Its unclear why the decision has been overturned so quickly. Usally these things take time, and the F.A’s video panel are involved.
The likely scenario is that the F.A has been left embarrassed by what was clearly an awful decision by the referee, and have moved quickly to calm things down. If this is the reason, D’Urso could well face a demotion to Division 1.
