Bobby Robson paid tribute to his side’s defence as the Magpies defeated Ipswich Town 1-0 at Portman Road on Sunday.

A goal from Nolberto Salano was enough to give the Magpies a hard thought 1-0 victory over the Premiership’s bottom side.

Robson said "That was out best defensive performance of the season and I think we deserved to win. We played some good ground football, it was nip and tuck but we got the goal that mattered and perhaps we were the better side.

Despite the good performance, Robson wrote off his side’s chances of winning the league. "However, we won't win the title. I don't think so anyway. It's only December and only if we're still here in May will I start getting excited. We're looking good but we're not getting carried away."
